Discover the technical aspects of music through exploring a variety of tunes and arrangements.
What to expect
A space to grow musically. Welcoming music enthusiasts of varying levels, this lovely get-together is a great way to learn through practice. You may sing and/ or play any acoustic instrument—whether you're just beginning to learn or already know a few tunes.
Work on things such as
• getting to know your voice• learning an instrument inside out• studying the tuning system• participating in an ensemble• figuring out a tune of your choice—finding the best keys for your vocal range and/ or instrument, as well as other technical details such as overall structure, meter, groove, phrasing, etc.• preparing a folk song for a future Flotsam Sessions workshop• reviewing repertoire so that you may contribute to the monthly Flotsam Sessions jam
We're particularly keen to work with folks who are:• able to show up with good intentions,• willing to put in the work to create something beautiful, and• eager to carry that beauty forward and share it with the world.
Before the workshop
Please choose a song you’d like us to work on. If you’re unable to print the lyrics, let us know and we’ll print them for you.
First-timers
The studio can be a bit difficult to find, on your own. A short meet-up will be held for your convenience at the Crown & Castle, just outside Dalston Junction station. Check in with your host at the pub around 6:30PM and no later than 6:45PM.
Free Spot
Only for folks who have participated before—free spot available, for when you can’t afford the fee.
