About this Event
Asian Enough & Choy Division Radish Kimchi Class!
Hi! We wanted to clarify that this first class is for people that identify as Asian. We will be doing all inclusive events soon but this one is meant to create a safe space for Asian Americans.
Welcome to the Asian Enough & Choy Division Kimjang! A Kimjang is a traditional Korean practice of making and sharing kimchi, particularly in the winter season. This time-honored tradition brings communities together to celebrate the seasons harvest. Join us in person for a fun-filled session where you'll learn the art of making delicious radish kimchi (Kkdakadugi)and hang out with other Asian Americans. The Korean radish aka Mu was donated by Choy Division and our Kimchi maker from Asian Enough will guide you through the process. And everybody will be able to take some Kkdakadugi home!
Asian Enough (AE) is a cultural organization based in Beacon, NY, just 70 miles north of NYC. We are dedicated to building meaningful connections within the Asian diaspora, offering a welcoming space for those who have felt disconnected from their Asian heritage, whether due to multicultural backgrounds, adoption, feeling like an outsider, or simply desiring a deeper connection to the Asian community. Using food as a bridge, we foster community through collaborative cooking classes, cultural potlucks, community-driven workshops and educational opportunities that center around the unifying power of food. Our mission is to celebrate and deepen connections to Asian identity through these shared experiences and to provide a platform where individuals can learn, share, and embrace their cultural roots.
Choy Division was founded in 2019, and had its first iteration as an urban farm in Astoria, Queens. The farm moved upstate to the Black Dirt in Orange County in 2020.
We are a three acre diversified vegetable farm, with a focus on growing East Asian heritage crops using regenerative agricultural techniques. This means that our farming decisions are made with soil biodiversity and ecosystem health as a primary factor, not just productivity and profit. Sustainability to us means taking care of the earth, but also ourselves and each other.
Some of the vegetables we grow include gai lan, bok choy, chong gak and daikon radish, bitter melon, Thai basil, chili peppers, chamoe melon, and kabocha squash. Follow us on Instagram for updates throughout the season!
