Programme

Join us for a thought-provoking conference focused on the practical, legal and human challenges of supporting people after brain injury. The day’s programme brings together leading experts from law, therapy and care to explore some of the most important issues facing professionals in this field, from positive risk-taking and mental capacity to funding decisions, case management and client-centred care.

Attendees will gain valuable insight into how to balance independence with safety, manage complex litigation-related decisions before settlement, and build trust when clients, families and professionals have differing priorities. Through a mix of expert presentations, interactive discussion and practical case-based learning, the conference is designed to offer both strategic thinking and real-world guidance.

The afternoon sessions will focus on the development and management of care teams after brain injury, including the challenges of directly employed carers and the comparison between direct employment and agency care. With dedicated networking opportunities throughout the day and a closing Q&A panel, this promises to be an engaging and highly relevant event for anyone involved in brain injury support, rehabilitation or litigation.

12:10 – The Human Side of Complex Cases: Building Trust When Everyone Wants Something Different - Felicity Sparkes, Ashtons Legal

Brain injury cases bring together clients, families, deputies, solicitors, therapists, care providers and case managers, each with their own perspective, priorities and concerns. Navigating these competing viewpoints requires more than technical expertise.

This highly interactive session explores how to build trust, manage conflict and create alignment when there is no obvious right answer. Through discussion, reflection and practical case scenarios, delegates will explore the skills that help professionals move complex cases forward whilst keeping the client at the heart of every decision.
