Asheville Bus Stop Bench Building Event
About this Event
The Asheville chapter of Strong Towns, a non-profit that works for the betterment and expansion of multimodal transit, is continuing their fundraising and community building campaign bring more bus stop benches to Asheville, NC.
Asheville Tool Library, a volunteer-powered, membership-based nonprofit that shares its tools and resources and offers educational opportunities to the Community of Western North Carolina, has offered to host this workshop in their facility in partnership with Strong Towns Asheville.
Asheville has a severe issue building bus stop infrastructure, with most lacking sidewalks, rain shelters, lighting, trash cans, and benches. This is one of the first easiest actions we can take as a community, and requires very little funding.
Strong Towns Asheville organizes bench-building work days that anyone in the community can attend, and then deploys these benches where they're needed most - where ridership is highest in the region. Asheville currently has a total of 675 bus stops, and most of those are without benches. We have built 12 so far and are keeping the momentum going with this event.
