✨ Night Under the Stars in the Yorkshire Dales ✨
Why not book one of our cosy lodges or our cottage and enjoy a magical night under the stars? Take time to slow down, guide yourself through some easy-to-spot constellations, admire the vast night sky, and—if conditions are right—catch a glimpse of the Orionid Meteor Shower 🌠.
This is a self-led stargazing experience, giving you the freedom to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Yorkshire Dales at your own pace. Located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, an officially recognised International Dark Sky Reserve, this area is one of the best places in the world for stargazing.
With skies at their darkest around the New Moon, it’s the perfect time to wrap up warm, step outside, and enjoy the beauty of truly dark skies and a breathtaking natural setting.
Orionid meteor shower
The Orionid meteor shower takes place from 2 October to 7 November as Earth passes through the trail of Halley’s Comet, one of the most famous comets of all time. In 2025, the shower is due to peak on the night of 21 October.
A full Moon occurs a few days before the peak, which may make viewing conditions unfavourable this year.
Orionids are some of the fastest and brightest meteors, entering the atmosphere at just under 70 kilometres per second.
Orionids get their name because they seem to radiate from the constellation Orion, but they can appear anywhere in the sky.
Stargazers can usually expect to see up to 25 meteors per hour.
The Hive & The Warren lodges, suitable for single or a couple
Ingleborough view Cottage, suitable for a couple or two couples.
Two night stay from £260 and includes use of a Dark skies hamper, blankets, a red torch, thermo cups, binoculars and hot water bottles. Star gazing books also available. Download Starwalk2 free app for added support.
