About this Event

Join us for a wandering tour through Ashburton Park, with Saira Niazi of Living London to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month 2026. We will explore how this corner of South London connects to wider histories of empire, migration, trade, and everyday life.

Tour/walk outside in Ashburton Park: 11am-1pm

Optional post-walk Chai & Chat and story sharing: 1-2pm, Inside Ashburton Hall

As we explore the park’s gems, we’ll trace stories of labour, resistance, movement, and settlement, while reflecting on the generations of South Asian communities who have helped shape Croydon’s neighbourhoods.

This is an open, conversational walk rooted in local history and shared reflection. We’ll finish with story sharing and chai - a chance to gather, connect personal memories, and think about how global histories continue to live on in Croydon today.

This tour explores local South Asian histories and heritage through a respectful, inclusive and community-centred approach. Participants are encouraged to engage with curiosity and openness, and discussions will be facilitated to ensure a welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds, experiences and perspectives

Made possible thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
