Join us for Ash Wednesday worship! We are offering two worship opportunities in our sanctuary at 12:05 p.m. and 7 p.m.
In addition, we will have Ashes to Go in our park from 5 - 6 p.m. (see https://www.facebook.com/share/1MWmCaGnPm/ for more information), and an Ash Wednesday opportunity will be offered during our Kids CONNEXION programming at 6 p.m. for children and their families.
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time to prepare for Easter by fasting, repentance, or taking on of new spiritual practices and spiritual discipline. Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence. From the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. In the ancient symbol of the ashes, we are reminded of Genesis 3:19, “you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
The reminder that we are dust turns our attention to the creative power of God, and God's ability to heal the brokenness in our lives when we offer that brokenness to God. That turning to God is the work of Lent, preparation for the celebration of Easter.
