Ash Wednesday, March 5, marks the beginning of the Church’s liturgical season of Lent, a 40-day period of penance and prayer. It is a day of fasting, almsgiving and reflection that leads to Easter. During Mass, ashes will be placed on our foreheads in the shape of a cross, reminding us that we are mortal and we need to be reconciled with God. Mass on Ash Wednesday will be celebrated in Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church at 12 noon and in Saint James Church at 6:30 p.m.
