Perhaps philosophizing has never been more necessary than now. When lies, corruption, and theft, aggression, destruction, and murder have become commonplace for brutes in power, philosophy reminds us that humanity is founded on the universal logic of truth, goodness, and beauty.
In my doctoral dissertation, I explicitly include idealism among my philosophical methods. The title, "Education through Alienation to Democracy," says it all: alienation not only represents a challenge to education in contemporary capitalist and militaristic democracy; it is also what we need to overcome, or at least mitigate, this challenge.
The dissertation defense is a public event lasting up to six hours, and the audience will be able to ask questions, comment, and offer critiques. In the break following the first official opponent, simply approach the chair of the defense.
I hope to see as many people as possible. For those who cannot be in Copenhagen that day, I plan to offer the option of attending and participating via Zoom.
