John Racine’s renowned classical Greek tragedy of Phaedra expresses the powerful depiction of human emotion, where love and hatred ignited by the irony of misplaced trust, guilt, and betrayal drives the chain of events within this ancient world of Troezen. Inspired by the Greek mythology story of Hippolytus, this adaptation delves into the complex world and nature of passion, the consequences of unchecked aspirations, and endless conflict between personal desires and social obligations. Phaedra engages the audience in a panoramic experience which touches both their primitive roots and sophisticated perceptions.
