ASCE SEI Georgia SEPTEMBER 2026 Meeting @ GT HOWEY Building (#N210)
About this Event
Topic: This presentation will introduce two practical transportation infrastructure solutions. Hot-in-place asphalt recycling rehabilitates existing pavement by heating, rejuvenating, scarifying, remixing, and recompacting the existing asphalt in place, reducing hauling, new material use, traffic disruption, and cost. Press-brake-formed tub girders are modular, shallow steel box girders cold-bent from plate for short-span bridges. The system supports accelerated construction, simple fabrication, lightweight modular erection, high torsional stiffness, and durable galvanized options. Tom will discuss the processes, economics, applications, and where each approach is a good fit. Q&A will follow.
Speaker Bio: Tom Layfield grew up in Columbus, Georgia, and graduated from Auburn University. He lives in Montgomery, Alabama, and has worked in the transportation construction industry for 15 years. He will share two of his lines of business: hot-in-place recycling offered by Gallagher Asphalt and press brake tub girders offered by Nelson Bridge.
Retirees and Students Free. No need to register, just walk-in and contact me after the meeting for PDH.
