As You Like It

A pastoral comedy with major themes of love, gender, sexuality, and injustice.
As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle's court, accompanied by her cousin Celia to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden.
In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveler Jaques, who speaks one of Shakespeare's most famous speeches ("All the world's a stage") and provides a sharp contrast to the other characters in the play, always observing and disputing the hardships of life in the country.

Performers and some production volunteers/crew MUST be available for all tech week rehearsals and all performances. There are no exceptions! You MUST complete the online sign-up form in advance to attend this audition or be considered for a role or production volunteer opportunities.

IMPORTANT: If you have SIGNIFICANT conflicts between auditions and tech week, please carefully consider whether or not you are in a position to participate in this production. We are looking for performers who are AVAILABLE and COMMITTED to this production.
Please take care to complete the conflict section of the form accurately and completely. Casting and staffing decisions and rehearsal schedules are based in part on information you provide about potential conflict dates.

Rehearsals:
The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined, but rehearsals are usually 2-3 days per week, mostly weekday nights, but there may be rehearsals on Saturdays in the daytime and/or Sundays in the evening. Weekday evening rehearsals generally begin at 7 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. (possibly later during tech week) Sunday evening rehearsals generally begin at 6 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. There will be a total of approximately 20-25 rehearsals for this production.
The rehearsal schedule intensifies as opening night draws closer. Tech week rehearsals often run later into the evening. Call time for all performers and crew on performance dates is 1 hour prior to showtime.

No experience is necessary. All roles are open. All ethnicities, identities and abilities are strongly encouraged to audition for any and all roles. This is a non-paid opportunity.

Duke Frederick-Mid 40s-50s-Duke Senior's younger brother and his usurper, also Celia's father
Rosalind-Early 20s- Duke Senior's daughter
Celia- Early 20s Duke Frederick's daughter and Rosalind's cousin
Touchstone-Late 20s-Early 30s- a court fool or jester
Le Beau, a courtier
Charles, a wrestler
Oliver de Boys- Mid 20s-Early 30s-the eldest son and heir
Jacques de Boys- Mid 20s-the second son, announces Frederick's change of heart
Orlando de Boys- Early 20s- the youngest son
Adam-60s+-a faithful old servant who follows Orlando into exile
Dennis- the servant who announces Charles's arrival in Oliver's orchard
Duke Senior- Late 40s-50s- Duke Frederick's older brother and Rosalind's father
Amiens, an attending lord and musician (ability to play guitar a plus)
Jacques-Late 30s+-Somewhat a pessimistic philosopher
Phebe-Early 20s- a proud shepherdess
Silvius-Early 20s- a shepherd in love with Phebe
Audrey-Late 20s to Late 30s- a simple, uneducated country woman who is easily swayed by Touchstone's wit and charm.
Corin-Early 50s+- an elderly shepherd
William-Late 20s-Late 30's- a country man in love with Audrey.
Sir Oliver Martext- a vicar
Hymen- officiates over the weddings in the end; god of marriage
Due to some roles appearing only once, actors may be double cast.
Actors cast as any of the lovers (Rosalind & Orlando, Celia & Oliver, Touchstone & Audrey, Silvus & Phebe) must be comfortable with romantic touch and kissing.

What to expect on your audition date:
We expect a large turnout for auditions, and space is LIMITED. We regret we cannot admit any guests, companions, or observers.
Auditions begin at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6:45 p.m. IMPORTANT information is covered at the beginning of each session, therefore it is imperative that you are prepared to begin on time. No auditioners will be admitted after 7:05 p.m.
