presents 'Sunderland Scratch #8' - bringing together scriptwriters, screenwriters, & performers to test out scripts in progress.

Now onto our seventh scratch event, we pleased to be hosting regular scratch nights in Sunderland, and we've seen the invaluable insight events like these can offer to writers on their work in progress. Come and join us to help keep scratch nights like this thriving!

Both ticket options now include the opportunity to bring a friend or peer as an 'audience member' free of charge, as a 'plus 1'.

An opportunity to hear your writing read aloud (script in hand), and receive feedback on your scripts in progess. We're looking specifically for scripts for theatre, screen, and audio - for poets or spoken-word, we would recommend looking at Sunderland's monthly poetry & spoken-word night "", or checking out our new regular event starting in March 2026, 'Writer's Toolkit'.

Due to timings, writers' tickets are limited to 5 writers - this will allow us to work through everyone's scripts on the evening.

Writers, please send your work / extracts to [email protected] by the end of Sunday 26th April 2026, so that we can share your script with our other writers & audience to read in advance.

Please limit your writing to 10 pages of dialogue maximum - one script per writer.

Each writer will receive feedback cards from other attendees, and have the chance to receive & discsuss verbal feedback after their reading. The reading and conversation will be recorded in audio, and sent to each writer after the event.

Writers' tickets include a free +1 - you have the opportunity to bring a friend, fellow creative, or loved one as an 'audience member' free of charge, as a 'plus 1'.

A chance to enjoy unheard and unseen writing at an early stage, written by local writers. You'll have the opportunity to give feedback to the writers on their works in progress, and get a taste of the writing/re-drafting process, whilst having fun meeting members of Sunderland's creative community in the process.
