ArtsFairfax & Tephra Arts Networking Social Hour

ArtsFairfax invites you to join an Arts Networking Social Hour on Wednesday, March 18th from 6:00 - 7:30 at Tephra Intsitute of Contemporary Art. An organized round of speed-networking will start at 6:15. Local area performing, visual, and literary artists are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required.

Light refreshments included with your registration, including food provided by catering sponsor bartaco.

Garage parking is available within easy walking distance. The Red garage on St. Francis Street behind the CVS is the closest public parking garage to the gallery.Parking in the Reston Town Center garage is free after 5 pm.

An exhibition featuring recent work by artists Janet Loren Hill and Andrew Casto.

Hill’s shaped paintings present surreal characters moving through complex environments, tracing various global histories of coercion, labor, and the potential for rupture.

Casto's recent works — whose process translate geological processes, like sedimentation and volcanic activity, into ceramic and mixed-media vessel forms -- explores the connection between “macrocosmic” environmental change and interruptions in our often routine existence.

Visually, their work plays both against and with each other: painting vs. ceramic, large vs. small scale, use of texture, the absurd and the sublime, decadent color, and sometimes unnerving forms. Contextually, they share a use of humor and absurdity, varied references to the body, and commentary on our world.
