Enjoy a creative walk in the city, encountering the urban grasslands of Edinburgh from The Scottish Gallery in Dundas Street to the John Hope Gateway Gallery, West Gate,Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
In August 2026 there are not one but TWO Grasslands exhibitions, and we invite you to join the urban dots, discovering ways of looking at and making art with grasses along the way.
Beginning with an exclusive tour of the Grasslands exhibition at the Scottish Gallery, artists Kate Downie and Gillian McFarland ( with invited guests Poiesis) will take you for a guided meander through the back streets, parks, walkways, bridges and rivers of the New Town with an eye to how nature, (and grass especially!) finds its way through the fabric of this well-trodden city.
It is a journey that is just a few kilometres, but we will be collecting samples of grasses, drawing the urban soundscape; drawing, print-making and even chalk graffitiing our grasses along the way!
We will finish at the John Hope Gateway Gallery, West Gate,Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh where there is different Grasslands exhibition to discover in your own time.

Info: Join us for a creative walk in the city to encountering the urban grasslands of Edinburgh from The Scottish Gallery in Dundas Street to the Royal Botanical Garden West Gate.
In August 2026 there are not one but TWO Grasslands exhibition, and we invite you to join these two venues, discovering ways of looking at and making art with grasses along the way.
