We are happy to invite you for a meeting with three artists who will be sharing different ways they work with photography and broader arts – our artist-in-residency Sindija Filipusko, our Erasmus intern of five months Petja Heiskanen, and artist and photobook book expert Ilkin Huseinov, who is visiting Riga during this month! See you soon!Sindija Filipusko is a visual artist, originally from Latvia but based in the UK, who uses her creative practice as a way to reconnect humans with the natural world. She will show her latest series that retraces her return to Latvia, seeking a sense of belonging. Petja Heiskanen is a lens-based visual artist from Finland. His works reflect on traumas, escapism, hedonism, community and death. Using performative photography and parts of his own identity, he plays with the idea of parallel worlds and illusions of survival in everyday life. In this talk, Petja will discuss his past and future and how that relates to his photographic practice - performance and trauma developed through the lens. https://heiskanenpetja.cargo.site/
Ilkin Huseinov is a multidisciplinary artist, publisher and cultural worker from Azerbaijan, a co-founder of Riot Book publisher (Spain) and Salaam Cinema art space in Baku. His research-driven work explores cross-border realities, urbanism, ecology and memory through archives, found imagery, and bookmaking. In his talk, he will offer a walk-through of how his projects come to life - moving between photography, sound, and photo book publishing, and share what he has learned working with various artist-led and community spaces. https://www.instagram.com/ilkin_huseyenov/
