Artist Talk With John Hallett

Join us for a talk with this amazing, Wisconsin based, sculptor as he illuminates us on his process, the way nature inspired his new series, and what inspired him to leave a veterinary career for art!
The doors open at 6PM on Thursday November 12th and the talk starts at 6:15PM. There will be complimentary wine, lots to learn, and good company until 8PM.
Hallett, a sculptor who works primarily in bronze and glass, is a retired veterinarian whose oeuvre is influenced in part by his former profession. Animals populate his early work and continue to be an interest. His latest work, however, explores the surprisingly complex world of trees. His sculptures of trees and tree bark emanate from his deep connection to the environment. He casts fragments of actual trees in bronze and glass, creating works that suspend in time a living, growing piece of nature. His materials demonstrate both the preciousness and resilience of his subject matter, and provide depth, texture, and reflectivity. Many of the sculptor's works are interactive, inviting to be touched, revealing aural and visual effects. Hallett has stated that his work is a means of making the forest familiar, thus bringing the audience into conversation about the environment and establishing a sense of wonder and connection to nature.
