Join artist Sameer Farooq to learn about his 2025 Arts/Industry residency at Kohler Co. and the development of Ascension (for bakers), on view at the Art Preserve.
Farooq will share how his research on bakeries throughout Sheboygan shaped the work and deepened his understanding of the skill, labor, and traditions of professional baking. He will also speak about related projects, including the Flatbread Library, and community workshops held as part of his practice.
Placing the Sheboygan project within a wider history, Farooq will discuss the role bread has played in cultures around the world. From making and sharing food to passing down recipes and stories, bread can bring people together and carry knowledge from one generation to the next.
