Goucher Art Galleries is pleased to present the first artist talk of Mnemosyne – Memory as a Voice for Nature, exploring memory as a generative force in shaping relationships to land, material, and ecological systems.
This first artist talk brings together a group of artists and thinkers whose practices span installation, sculpture, sound, performance, moving image, legal theory, and environmental inquiry. Collectively, the speakers investigate how memory operates across bodies, landscapes, and infrastructures—surfacing histories embedded in material processes, spatial arrangements, and systems of governance.
Participating artists will present their work and research in relation to the Mnemosyne framework, reflecting on questions of land use, environmental justice, ritual, embodiment, and the unseen forces that shape lived experience. The conversation will consider how artistic practice can function as a form of attunement—listening to sites, materials, and histories that resist easy representation.
Rooted in interdisciplinary exchange, Mnemosyne foregrounds contemporary art as a site of inquiry rather than conclusion. The artist talk invites audiences to engage with process, speculation, and dialogue, offering insight into how memory—personal, collective, and ecological—can be mobilized as both method and material.
This event is free and open to the public and will include time for audience questions and discussion.
