About the Artist:
Born and based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia, Melanie Colosimo creates drawings, soft sculptures and installations that are shaped by the resourcefulness and legacy of labour and collective care in Atlantic Canada. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally in venues such as the Art Gallery of Windsor (ON), Bonavista Biennale (NL), the Guangdong Museum of Art, (Guangzhou) and the He Xiangning Art Museum, (Shenzhen). She has participated in numerous residencies in Canada, USA and France, and was on the 2017 and 2020 Sobey Art Award long-list. She is currently the Director of MSVU Art Gallery.
About the Project - 'Road to Nowhere':
Road to Nowhere features an inflatable representation of the former Cogswell Interchange overpass, serving as a memorial to the social issues associated with its construction. This installation prompts reflection on the existing challenges confronting our communities and resistance to unsustainable development.
