Join us for an artist talk by Kat Wilson on January 29th from 1:40 - 2:30 pm in the Baum Gallery, Gallery III. You will get a sneak peak at her large-scale installation as she speaks about her practice and the #selfiethrone project. Artist Kat Wilson will share how her acclaimed Habitats series evolved into the immersive installation #SelfieThrone, and eventually into her collaborative platform Party Art. Through stories, images, and behind-the-scenes insight, Wilson will trace the creative lineage between these projects, showing how Habitats became the foundation for participatory works that invite viewers to become part of art. She will also discuss how #SelfieThrone grew beyond what she could build alone, inspiring collaborations with artists and craftsmen/women skilled in neon, sculpture, and beyond. The official opening for "THE UNITED STATES OF SELFIES: A #SELFIETHRONE for the People, A 250-Year American Portrait" will be that same Thursday from 4 - 7 pm, along with another exhibition by Aida Ayers in the other galleries.
This lecture will be held in Gallery III of the Baum Gallery. The Baum is located in room #145 of McCastlain Hall on the UCA campus. Free parking is available next door in front of and behind Wingo Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
