Join artist Fran Callen for a special artist talk exploring her exhibition Drawing Groundwater. The record of Earth’s history is preserved in rocks, the narrative of mark-making similarly preserved within drawing. Through drawing, found pigments and recycled materials, Fran explores connections between motherhood, geology and hydrogeological processes, informed by field trips and research by Dr Margaret Shanafeild into the effects of climate change on groundwater recharge.
The exhibition reflects collaborative learning about the natural world and the intergenerational flow of knowledge, incorporating the incidental mark-making potential of water in both nature and domestic life. Fran also acknowledges Boandik Elder Auntie Michelle for her generous sharing of knowledge and ochre during the project.
Come along to hear Fran discuss the ideas, research and processes behind this thoughtful and deeply connected body of work.
Everyone welcome!
