About this Event
Break Bread, Build Words
A Lunch & Learn for Black and Queer Artists
Writing an artist statement or resume shouldn’t feel harder than making the art itself and yet… here we are. Break Bread, Build Words is a free Lunch & Learn created for Black women and queer artists who want support putting words to their work without losing their voice in the process.
Hosted at the benjamin franklin city library, this workshop is equal parts learning, writing, and community. We’ll break down what grants and exhibitions are really asking for, talk through common mistakes (we’ve all made them), and spend time actually working on your materials, not just talking about them.
The session will be led by a working artist and includes guided instruction, prompts, examples, and practical templates you can reuse long after the workshop ends. Whether you’re starting fresh or polishing what you already have, you’ll leave with drafts and more clarity than you came with.
Light refreshments will be provided. Bring your laptop, notebook, or that half-written statement living in your notes app.
This space is for Black women and queer artists across all disciplines and experience levels.
Free to attend. Registration required. Limited spots available.
Come eat. Come learn. Come build the words around your work.
