Explore the beauty of urban landscapes in this all-day workshop led by Josiah Hanchett, award-winning artist, architectural designer, and Ghosthouse Fine Art Studio instructor.
Inspired by The Matter of Awe: Landscapes in Art, participants will practice urban sketching en plein air on the museum’s terrace, capturing the local cityscape through ink and watercolor.
Learn to break complex scenes into simple geometric shapes, apply the three essential rules of perspective, and use watercolor washes to add depth, light, and atmosphere — building skill and confidence in translating real-world architectural forms into compelling compositions.
All experience levels are welcome. All materials will be provided.
Location: Grand Rapids Art Museum
Contact: For more information, please contact GRAM Studio at [email protected] or 616.831.2927.
Cost: $100, 20% off for GRAM Members
