Artist Residency Exhibition: David Quady & Kathryn Blommel

Join us in celebrating the culmination of a three-month artist residency featuring painters David Quady and Kathryn Blommel, two artists visiting from Minnesota. During their time in Manchester, the artists immersed themselves in the local creative community—meeting fellow artists, visiting galleries and organizations throughout New Hampshire, and exploring the region’s landscapes and culture.

Throughout the residency, both artists developed new bodies of work inspired by their experiences here. This exhibition presents a brand-new series of drawings and paintings created entirely during their time in Manchester, offering a unique glimpse into how place, observation, and community shape artistic practice.Quady’s work focuses on plein air landscapes and figurative painting, capturing moments of the surrounding environment through expressive brushwork and traditional oil painting techniques.

Blommel’s drawings explore the human figure and emotional narrative, layering charcoal and form to create imagery that feels both realistic and quietly surreal.This exhibition celebrates not only the artwork created during their residency, but also the connections formed with the local arts community along the way. We invite you to join us for an evening of art, conversation, and a look at what can emerge from three months of creative exploration in Manchester.

The Factory’s AIR program aims to host up to 6 artists from across the world every year. Selected artists are provided stipends for room & board, food, and art supplies so they can spend their time focusing on their creative practice. At the end of each residency each artist hosts an exhibition in the Factory’s event space and invites the community to join as we celebrate their developing bodies of work.
