Tickets: $5 Museum Members | $7 Student/Senior | $10 General PublicBeing the primary caretaker of a young child as a working artist is often overlooked in the art world, yet is a reality for many—the balancing act required to care for another’s needs full time while continuing to pursue one’s practice is extremely draining. Finding strength from her own community of fellow artist-parents and caretakers, Aneesa will host a crafting circle inviting Dearborn-based artist-parents to connect with one another. Craft circles and quilting bees have a long lineage in American history cultivating relationship and communication within marginalized communities. This event is a small example of how working with one’s hands in a group setting can be a safe space for sharing wisdom and encouragement with one another.
Participants are encouraged to bring a handicraft with them to work one throughout the session (examples include: sketching, knitting, crochet, mending, quilting, and so on). Handsewing materials will also be provided for folks to create a small applique tapestry.
