About this Event

Join Carnegie Mellon University and the K&L Gates Initiative in Ethics and Computational Technologies for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges, a full-day, in-person conference on November 5, 2026, at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business.

Health care sits at the epicenter of recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI). In recent years, research on AI applications in medicine has grown dramatically, reflecting both genuine opportunities for social benefit and persistent challenges in translating innovation into meaningful clinical impact.

AI has the potential to automate routine tasks, learn from large-scale patient data, advance precision medicine, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health care delivery. At the same time, enthusiasm for AI has contributed to inflated expectations and raised concerns about the quality, validity, and real-world relevance of much of this research.

This conference will bring together leaders in AI, medicine, ethics, law, industry, and public policy to examine where AI systems have delivered value, where they have fallen short, and what is required to responsibly realize their potential to improve the safety, quality, and equity of health care.

The program will include an opening keynote and panel discussions. Panel topics will include:

  • Special Challenges Developing AI for Health Care
  • Promoting Benefit and Avoiding Harm
  • Making AI That Works for Everyone
  • Ensuring Responsibility and Accountability

The conference will conclude with a networking reception featuring beverages and appetizers, offering attendees an opportunity to continue the conversation with speakers and fellow participants.

The conference is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
