Articles of Connection: Between Shadow and Light
You may think you know me.
Maybe you know me as a massage therapist or teacher. A mother or friend. A business owner, artist, traveler, lifelong student, or the woman behind That’s the Rub.
You do know me.
But you probably don't know all of me.
For most of my life, I'm not sure I did either.
Articles of Connection: Between Shadow and Light is the story of what happened as I began to look.
Over the past several years, art became a language for things I couldn't always say. Paintings appeared before I completely understood what they meant. Stories emerged in layers of color, darkness, movement, texture and light. Some pieces reached backward. Others seemed to know where I was going before I did.
Together, they began telling the story of becoming me.
Not a new me.
Me.
This exhibition brings that journey together for the first time, alongside other paintings created along the way—each carrying stories of their own.
And for one evening, I'm opening the front door.
Come in.
Be curious. Ask questions. Be a little nosey. Look closely. Wander through the shadows and the light and see what you discover about the person you thought you knew.
Maybe, somewhere among these paintings, you'll discover something about yourself too.
Because this is my story, but finding our way back to ourselves may be one of the most human stories we have.
And right now, I think we could use a few stories that remind us it's possible.
