Explore the styles and techniques of iconic artists! Each week, weβll focus on a different artist, experimenting with their medium and approach.
What to Expect:
π¨ Create mini artworks for a personal Museum Book, assembled in the final class
π Enjoy a brief artist spotlight on their life and style
π Learn key color theory concepts
π Watch a demonstration and experiment with the medium
πΌοΈ Complete a larger piece inspired by the artist
At the end of the series, weβll celebrate with a month-long gallery show featuring student artwork, including an opening reception promoted via social media, event calendars, and flyers!

Week 1: Laurel Burch β Stylized Representational
π¨ Color Theory: Bold jewel tones, high-contrast color juxtaposition
π Mini Artwork: Sun/Moon design
πΌ Large Artwork: Choose from template options (cat, horse, etc.)
π Medium: Pastel
πΉ Techniques:
Blending: Heavy pressure, scumbling, stippling
Sgraffito: Scratching through layers to reveal color beneath
β¨ Application Tip: Work from dark tones to medium tones, finishing with light tones
Week 2: Wassily Kandinsky β Abstract & Musical Inspiration
π¨ Color Theory: Colors and emotion; music as inspiration
π Mini Artwork: Concentric circles
πΌ Large Artwork: 9-square concentric circle compositionβeach square inspired by different music pieces
π¨ Medium: Wax Resist & Watercolor

Blending: Wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, brush loading
Care & Prep: Proper use and maintenance of watercolor brushes and pans
Week 3: Mary Cassatt β Impressionism & Soft Color Palettes

π Mini Artwork: Womanβs profile in pastel
πΌ Large Artwork: Studentβs profile (shadow outline projection) on canvas, featuring a tissue-paper collage hat with minimal facial details
