Art Werk Class with Kenlo Key
About this Event
Celebrate Footwork Appreciation Month through art at our first-ever Art Werk Workshop at Tuley Park! Led by Chicago artist Kenlo Key, this hands-on workshop invites participants of all ages to create original artwork inspired by the history, movement, music, and culture of Chicago Footwork.
ArtWerk is part of Chicago Footworkology (CFology), Creative Netwerk’s annual educational series dedicated to preserving and celebrating Chicago Footwork through workshops, performances, conversations, and community events. Since launching online during the pandemic in 2020, CFology has connected dancers from more than 50+ countries while continuing to invest in Chicago’s local community through scholarships, cultural education, and paid opportunities for artists.
This year’s workshop also celebrates a new partnership with Tuley Park and the Chicago Park District, expanding access to arts programming on Chicago’s South Side. Participants will receive all art supplies, create a footwork-inspired piece to take home, connect with community members, and learn more about the culture through a fun, welcoming creative experience.
ArtWerk is presented in collaboration with Jones Corner Store, the Chicago creative studio behind Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork, a children’s activity book developed with Creative Netwerk and ChicagoFootworkDotCom to celebrate Footwork through art, literacy, and storytelling.
Whether you’re an artist, dancer, family member, or simply curious about Chicago Footwork, everyone is welcome. No art experience is required.
