Join us for Painting the Light: Paintings by Katie Montovan, an art show opening on Friday, July 24th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Laura Nowak Memorial Meeting Room on the library's second floor. Refreshments will be available courtesy of the Friends of the McCullough Library.
Artist’s Statement:
I am a multidisciplinary artist who uses modern expressionist techniques to capture light and energy in my paintings. My work draws inspiration from photographs of people, animals, and shiny objects that capture light in interesting ways. Ultimately I want to invite viewers to delight in unexpected uses of color and emotion that lack of detail can create. Sometimes with less details we can capture the essence and feeling of a moment more fully than a photograph every could.
I am a community member, parent, math/ ceramics/ snowboarding teacher, and artist. I teach math at Bennington College, ceramics at VAE, and snowboarding through JISP. I also enjoy exploring the beautiful trails, lakes, and rivers in our region with my family. I am recovering from a brain injury two years ago and painting and ceramics have played a large role in my recovery.
I love the McCullough Library and am forever grateful for all the ways the library is present in our community and supporting community members of all ages. I hope that my painting will bring you joy!
