About this Event
Junk journaling through imposter syndrome: art psychotherapy workshop with Dawn Kwan
Many of us move through life with a quiet, persistent doubt - the feeling that we don’t quite belong, that our success is accidental, or that one day we’ll be found out as a fraud. This is often called imposter syndrome: a pattern of inner criticism that causes us to minimise our strengths, dwell on perceived failures, and live under the pressure of unrealistically high standards.
This workshop is an invitation to step out of that striving, fixing, and proving — and into presence, play, and fun.
Through junk journalling and scrapbooking, we will explore imposter syndrome not by analysing or correcting it, but by meeting it with curiosity and compassion. Using found materials, stickers, stamps, papers, fabrics, words, and images, participants are encouraged to create without judgement or expectation. There is no “right way” to make art here — only space to notice what emerges when we allow ourselves to be rather than perform.
Inspired by Julia Cameron’s words, “Think magic. Think delight. Think fun.” - this session centres creativity as a restorative practice, not a task to be done well. Art-making becomes a way to soften self-criticism, reconnect with the present moment, and remember that worth is not something we earn through productivity.
This workshop is especially suitable for those who:
feel intimidated by art or believe they are “not cre ative”
struggle with self-doubt, overworking, or perfectionism
want to explore imposter syndrome in a non-judgemental, body-friendly way
long for rest from constant self-evaluation and pressure
No art experience is required. All materials are provided. You are welcome exactly as you are- messy thoughts, uncertainties, and all. Bring your own Journal.
