About this Event

In-Person Event - This event will take place on Sarah Lawrence College's Bronxville Campus.

To celebrate our forty-year milestone, we will hear remarks from Art of Teaching co-founder and former Director Mary Hebron and current Director Jerusha Beckerman, along with several notable alumni. Together, we'll think about the the program's role in the history, present, and future state of teacher education—and of teaching and education in general. There will be time to share stories, photos and videos, and to connect with old friends and form new connections during our reception over food and drinks.

is an Approved CTLE Sponsor and offers 4 CTLE hours for this program.

The Sarah Lawrence College Program is an integrated Master of Science in Education (MSEd) program of study that leads to triple New York State certification in Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 2), Childhood Education (1st to 6th grade) and Early Childhood Students with Disabilities (birth to grade 2). It is a child-centered, culturally sustaining, interdisciplinary teacher education program focused on observation of children. We begin with an assumption of capacity: all children can and do learn. Our students examine and re-examine their own beliefs, values, and standards - regarding children, teaching, and learning - in intimate, collaborative, seminar-style classes and through ongoing concurrent work with children. We encourage teaching that fosters the well-being of every child by creating environments that are inclusive and responsive and that support learning that is self-sustaining. We value justice and equity as essential aspects of education and these values are woven throughout all of our coursework and field experiences. The program uses a strength-based and individualized approach to working with all children including children with disabilities.
