About this Event
In this event, we will explore the following question:
As we navigate change, how do we support the growth of individual and collective bravery and agency?
What to Expect:
- Learn and practice design tools to foster organizational learning, innovation, and experimentation.
- Build confidence in facilitating diverse groups through challenging discussions.
- Develop personal leadership practices for uncertain, afraid, or stuck situations.
- Increase your understanding of complexity, and practice working through challenging situations.
Art of Hosting is an international community of practitioners that engages teams and groups in action for the common good using approaches for working with complexity. If you are interested in exploring and experimenting with the art of acting together, immerse yourself in the Art of Hosting philosophy and its participatory practices, such as circle, open space, world café, collective story harvest, proaction café, etc., and come and connect with a community of practitioners in Atlantic Canada.
*A range of support is available for students and others who might need it. It will be determined on a case by case basis. Please answer a few short questions in this if you are looking for financial support to participate or reach out to for details.
Hosting Team:
Amanda Hachey (she/her/elle) has been steeping in the practices of Art of Hosting since 2010 and she is known for her innovative approach to hosting meaningful conversations within diverse stakeholder groups to connect people and increase the chances of those "Aha!" moments that make change happen. In her current role as Systems Convener at All In she helps multi-stakeholder groups tackle complex social problems by holding space for people to listen to and learn from each other, to see the whole system, and to take action in ambiguity by leveraging an experimental approach. Before joining All In in 2022, she was the Director of NouLAB, New Brunswick's Social and Public Innovation Lab. Amanda plays, loves, and laughs from her Moncton home with her son Rio and partner Aaron. She has a passion for everything bikes, gardens, and being outside!
Joanna Brown’s (she/her/elle) career for the last 15 years has included time working in the non-profit, private, and public sectors. Since returning to New Brunswick, her work, starting with project coordination at the New Brunswick Environmental Network, to running WA Action, a small non-profit, to managing her own consultancy, and now working for the Government of New Brunswick as Director of Innovation and Design, has required her to find ways to design effective gatherings. From regular operation meetings, to strategic planning and navigating hard conversations, Joanna has leaned on design tools to help her hold impactful conversations and gatherings focused on building sustainable change. Since 2011, Art of Hosting has been a place of inspiration on approaches/practices, as well as a community of practitioners who have supported her in answering questions and supporting her in deepening her practice. Outside of work, Joanna also leverages elements of AoH, like 4-fold, to support her as a mother of two and as a partner. Her full life is grounded by spending time digging in the earth, listening to novels, and jumping on skis in the winter and into swimming holes in the summer.
Meghan Morrison (she/her/elle) First introduced to Art of Hosting (AoH) in 2019, Meghan was immediately drawn to the community of practitioners and approaches that reinforced connection. She’s been practicing and learning from others in the AoH network ever since, playfully looking for ways to increase community capacity to host conversations that matter. She has been facilitating groups in conversation and learning for the last 20 years, whether working in Human Resources, supporting individuals using Third Party Neutral Conflict Resolution or using doodles and creative play to help groups consider their existing systems with fresh perspectives. In her current role as the Director of Experience at the New Brunswick Community College, Meghan gets to work with teams from all across the college, helping to explore how we can use intentional design to create amazing experiences for learners, educators, and communities. Passionate about finding ways to incorporate play and creativity into conversations, you’ll likely find Meghan at an AoH event with a marker in hand, encouraging someone new to take part in Harvesting conversations. Meghan’s home is in Fredericton, steps away from the beautiful and bountiful Wolastoq River where she lives with her fluffy dog Gus, and husband, Barry.
Inda Intiar (she/her) is a writer, storyteller, facilitator, communications specialist, and first-generation Indonesian-Canadian. Inda’s work sits at the intersection of storytelling, equity, and systems change. She was introduced to Art of Hosting in 2018. She continued to leverage facilitation tools for meaningful conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion. More recently, she has been facilitating spaces that encourage story-sharing for community building, and imagination for better futures. Inda enjoys traveling, being outdoors, dancing, books, karaoke, spicy food, and spending time with loved ones. She’s based in the Siknikt district of Mi’kma’ki, in a city colonially known as Moncton, NB.
