Art in the Afternoons Summer Camps are back this summer with Swansboro Parks & Recreation! Registrations are now open. Register by April 15th to receive a discount on registration. Art camps are for children who love to paint, draw, color and create. Art in the Afternoons are week-long afternoons dedicated to allowing creativity through exploring the visual arts. Participants will be exposed to a wide variety of medium, materials and methods, exploring techniques and tools during activities designed to inspire and excite. Surprising art will be created while discovering a perfect medium for self-expression and are not considered “make and take” classes. Experiences are designed where children can learn and enjoy making new friends while creating their own “masterpieces.” Each 5-day afternoon will run from 1:30 PM to 5:30PM beginning the first full week that school is out, June 17 – 21 and most summer weeks. * Independent art educator and instructor, Carolyn McDearmon is a Swansboro resident and former art educator, grades PreK -12 who has taught in formal and informal settings for many years. Carolyn was the sole proprietor of her graphic design studio in downtown Boston for 14+ years; a museum educator and exhibit designer; a caterer and an event coordinator including for the town of Washington, NC. Her passion is introducing art to children and adults through multi-faceted classes through unique, fun, hands-on experiences. Fun-filled, active, memorable summer art camps are planned.
Grade levels: 3-8; Ages: 8-12. Registration fee: $150 per student per week.
Early registration fee: $125 by April 15. Second child 10% discount starts April 16.
All materials are supplied.
Class size: Maximum:10 Minimum: 6
Note: Students should bring a NON-PEANUT snack and a refillable water bottle and dress for creating art (i.e.: apron, short sleeved or easy roll up sleeved shirts). Parents will be notified ahead of time of a planned outdoor observation or possible trip to a park. Students will be asked to bring hats, sun and bug protection applied before class begins. Allergies are to be noted upon registration.
