October 7 | Hindu Temples
This lively and engaging lecture introduces the fascinating world of Hinduism—complete with 330 million deities (don’t worry, you won’t be quizzed on them all). We’ll explore the beliefs and rituals that shape the religion, then take a virtual tour of Hindu temples, those epic stone masterpieces that are part spiritual haven, part architectural flex.
November 4 | Mesoamerican Art and History
Step into the colourful, complex, and occasionally terrifying world of Mesoamerican art, where the Olmec, Maya, and Aztec civilizations turned stone, jade, and feathers into some of the most jaw-dropping creations in ancient history. This lecture serves up a wild mix of mythology, politics, and divine drama. Great for anyone who likes their art history with a side of awe and a dash of dark humour.
December 9 | The Ramayana, Visualized
The Ramayana is unique in the world, yet there are countless different versions of it. The 25,000 verses of this epic poem recount the story of the Hindu god Ram, blending history and religion with poetry, adventure, and philosophy. This lecture will briefly outline of the story and then will go into detail with specific examples of how the Ramayana has been told through visual art in different eras and in different parts of the world.
