Art Explored - Online Course - Adult Learning

Art Explored aims to arrive at a historical understanding of the origins, meaning and purpose of art and artefacts from a different periods in time.   

We will explore the circumstances of their making, their makers, the media used, the functions of the images and objects, their critical reception and – not least – their subsequent history.  

In this course we will explore the works of Renaissance artists to abstract art. What made these artists; photographs; sculptures and paintings so exceptional, that we still admire them today, and will continue to do so for many years?   

• Why are they so enduring?   
• What is the meaning, if behind certain famous works of art?   
• We will also consider how art is perceived today.

After studying this course, you should be able to: 

• Be aware of the history of art and culture pertaining to different great paintings and master pieces 
• Understand how great art challenges the viewer, and the artists, in historical context 
• Start to develop skills in critical visual analysis based on the study of selected images of historical and abstract art

• As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
