Huddersfield born artist Ashley Cundall has always been captivated by maps and the changing face of the planet, exploring both rural and urban landscapes, including the Colne Valley, which a series of work explores. Inspiration is sought particularly from the industrial heritage buildings of the North of England, as well as rural scenes. His work showcases the themes of nature, civic pride, as well as transient and settled communities.
He often opts for ethereal colours to captivate and uplift viewers, inviting them to celebrate the natural and man-made scenes which surround us through art.
Cundall describes himself as an abstract realist, who also fosters Expressionistic and Impressionistic elements and is a huge fan of the Scottish Colourists.
The exhibition can be found in the Exhibition Room at Colne Valley Museum
Museum entry £5 Adults and accompanied children free. 12pm-4pm
Our ‘Spring Rock’ tearoom is open for refreshments and delicious cakes.
We would love to welcome you to the museum where you can discover what life was like in about 1840 when the cottages were inhabited by families of handloom weavers. Volunteers, in contemporary costume, demonstrate various crafts including spinning, weaving and clogging, and will explain to you what life was like in the cottages.
