About this Event
Art Exhibition By Alali : Beyond Our Stories
What happens when we look past the boundaries of the familiar?
"Beyond Our Stories" is a collective exhibition that brings together African creators who intentionally question, expand, and move past conventional storytelling to uncover entirely new ways of being.
This body of work intentionally steps outside the limitations of personal history, cultural expectation, social identity, and visible reality;reaching instead into the deep reservoirs of memory, imagination, and the unseen.
For generations, narratives surrounding African art have been anchored heavily in historical documentation or social commentary.
The creators in this exhibition challenge that boundary. Rather than reflecting the world as it is visible, they use their canvas to map the internal landscape, turning abstract memory and raw imagination into tangible experiences.
By deliberately shifting the focus away from external expectations, "Beyond Our Stories" invites the audience to engage with art as a portal for introspection. It is an exploration of the spaces that exist within us and around us that cannot always be defined by language, but are deeply felt.
We invite you to step into this intentional space at Eleven.Musa, engage with these profound visual journeys, and discover the worlds that exist just past the edge of our shared narratives.
Agenda
๐: 03:00 PM - 04:30 PM
The Silent Prelude (Book Club x Art Preview)
Info: Step into an intentional space of quiet contemplation. To mirror the exhibition's theme of looking inward past visible reality, the evening begins with a dedicated silent reading hour hosted by Silent Book Club VI in the Cafe. Simultaneously, the doors to the Glasshouse open for an exclusive early preview of "Beyond Our Stories." This window is reserved for collectors, readers, and guests who wish to engage with the artwork in a calm, deeply reflective setting before the evening rush.
๐: 04:30 PM - 05:30 PM
The Nostalgia Shift & The Arrival Wave
Info: The quiet hour concludes as we step from literature into nostalgic connection. In the Cafe, the post-reading social hour features a curated collection of light, classic board games and card games; invoking shared childhood memories and tech-free imagination. As the main Lagos evening crowd arrives, guests from the reading and gaming session naturally migrate into the Glasshouse, blending the literary, playful, and visual art worlds into one shared space over refreshments.
๐: 05:30 PM - 07:00 PM

The Alali Gallery team shares opening remarks on the vision behind "Beyond Our Stories," introducing the African creators who are rewriting memory and imagination. Our curatorial guides will lead an interactive walkthrough, offering a deeper look into how these profound works expand traditional storytelling to uncover entirely new ways of being.
