Art Exhibit: "Mother Nature" by Juliette Swenson

Juliette’s love affair with art began in school and continued from that early age throughout her educational pursuits at the University of Colorado where she earned a degree in Fine Arts.
Teaching classes brought her to the realization that a closer study of flowers and fruit was something she should explore further. Students often wanted to paint a vase of flowers or a plate of fruit – just as so many of the French Impressionists did.
She enjoyed painting on silk, but after retirement in 2016 switched to watercolors. Juliette says, “My art has become a closer study of the natural world with a bit of whimsy thrown in. I am attracted to painting animals and birds. Many people comment on the animal’s expressions and their eyes, which are fun to capture. Dogs and cats are favorites for me. I use lots of bright colors to show off the versatility of watercolor. I also have a streak of whimsy that sometimes appears in purple ears or turquoise eye lashes – on animals only! Often, we go about our daily lives and do not notice the beauty around us. Becoming better acquainted with nature has been a journey of delight.”
