About this Event

Join us for a powerful afternoon of art, activism, community, and reflection! As apart of our summer outdoors series, this event is all about building community and your advocacy skills through art.

General outline of the event:

The prompt of the session will be "Painting What Freedom Looks Like", and attendees will split into groups of 3-5 to paint a collaborative piece of art that encapsulates this theme. We will connect our painting to Indigenous principles of learning, art and reflection, and use art as a way to raise awareness about a certain social issue. The session will begin with a land aknowledgement and a time to reflect and brainstorm with a group the social issue you care about. The majority of the event will be a casual painting session. At the end of the event, we will reflect on our painting, why this social issue matters, and how attendees can support the issue beyond art, so we ask that you bring any awareness materials or non-profit promotional materials to share with the group.

Paintings will be donated to a local library to raise awareness of various social issues, and each group will write a short, informal artist statement. Attendees will leave the event feeling empowered to take action in their communities, and leave with new friendships and learning!
