About this Event
Welcome to Art and Music Through a Humanities Lens! Join us for a unique exploration of the intersection between art and music from a humanities perspective. This in-person event will be held at the Tempe History Museum's Community Room, where we will dive into the rich connections between these two creative realms.
The Central Arizona Flute Ensemble (CAFE Flutes) will provide live music that relates to four fine works of art in the Tempe Artist Guild's Past, Present, and Future exhibition. Experience the juxtaposition of paintings with the live music.
The program, facilitated by leading humanities professors, will build meaning, create dialogue, and offer commentary about how artists and composers express their ideas, and how audiences process them. The exhibiting artists will offer insights about their techniques and inspiration.
Featured artists: Becky Spradling, Tom Minor, Sunni Kuraoka, Gail Boyd.
This special event is free and open to the general public.
"Artists know that the very, very personal is universal. The arts invite us to participate, to interact, but we don't always have opportunities that foster this interaction. The process of engagement can be made more possible by dialogue." -Dr. Janice Jarrett, Humanities Scholar, Music Specialist
"I look forward to discussing the relationship between visual art and sound, and how images and music are perceived differently. There is a rich historic and cultural context for us to explore." Dr. Julie Codell, Humanities Scholar, Art Specialist
This event is a collaboration between Central Arizona Flute Ensemble, Tempe Artists Guild, and AZ Humanities. Visit www.cafeflutes.com
