Armature Works Book Club - August

Join us for our monthly series, in partnership with Oxford Exchange for The Armature Works Book Club. Join us and enjoy lite bites and wine , as well as open discussions on a wide range of novels led by Oxford Exchange.

Tickets include lite bites provided by vendors within Heights Public Market as well as wine provided by Bar AW (21+). The August event in our series will feature the science fiction, Chain-Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah.

About Chain-Gang All Stars:
Two formidable female gladiators engage in battles for their freedom within a corrupt private Pr*son system. Loretta Thurwar and Hamara "Hurricane Staxxx" Stacker are the standout fighters in Chain-Gang All-Stars, a central component of CAPE (Criminal Action Penal Entertainment), a controversial profit-driven venture within America's burgeoning private Pr*son sector. This resurgence of gladiatorial combat sees inmates vying for their liberty in intense death matches staged in front of enthusiastic crowds, juxtaposed with impassioned protesters outside the arena gates.

Thurwar and Staxxx, both partners in love and combat, capture the audience's adoration as they navigate the treacherous arena. Thurwar, on the brink of potential freedom, grapples not only with her own fate but also with the ethical implications of the brutal spectacle she participates in. Despite her desire to resist the dehumanizing nature of the games and aid her fellow inmates, Thurwar faces formidable obstacles orchestrated by CAPE's corporate overlords, leading to dire consequences for her and those around her.

This month's event will be held upstairs inside of Hyde House Heights. HHH is a private membership club offering individual memberships, and premier event and office spaces, but will be open to ticketed guests participating in this discussion with Armature Works and Oxford Exchange.
