About this Event
From finding and using the footage you find for your film - to what exactly an archival producer is responsible for - to the point of view of an archivist - who helps to preserve these materials, and how archiving is important at all levels - personal and community. Join us to hear from archival producer and filmmaker Amilca Palmer and archivist Marie Lascu.

Amilca Palmer is a Brooklyn-based producer and researcher who has worked on numerous critically acclaimed documentaries, including the celebrated PBS series African American Lives with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and the Emmy Award-winning film The M**der of Emmett Till. As Archival Producer she has researched a range of historical periods and figures uncovering rare footage, photography and ephemera for award-winning films, including the Emmy-nominated The Great Invisible and Peabody Award-winning LENNONYC. Other projects include Koch, Citizen Jane: Battle for the City, and the upcoming docuseries Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men. Amilca was a 2018-2019 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow, and is part of the producing team for Run With It, an animated documentary. She is also a graduate of the TWN Production Workshop.
Marie Lascu is a founding member of the Community Archiving Workshop (CAW) Collective and is the Digital Archivist for Ballet Tech, an NYC public dance school. She has worked as an audiovisual archiving consultant for over a decade with many organizations and individuals, including Crowing Rooster Arts, Third World Newsreel, Smithsonian Institution, Film at Lincoln Center, and Philadelphia Folklore Project. She was a member of the NYC-based XFR Collective from 2015-2024, and is a graduate of the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program at NYU-Tisch.
