This installment of Archives After Hours is focused on textiles made locally. More specifically, we will explore cross stitch samplers and other needlework made in and around Winchester and Frederick County.
Whether it was taught in the home or in a formal school, needlework was an important facet of female education. Samplers can provide useful historical information, such as creator, teacher, location, religious affiliation, and family history. Design elements present in samplers can be representative of an individual, teacher, time period, and/or region. Even unfinished samplers have a story to tell. Join us to explore local needlework!
Space is limited for this event and registration is required. Registration is limited to guests ages 12 and up.
