Three practitioners. One historic sanctuary. A 90 minute immersive sound experience at Cincinnati's First Lutheran Church.
About this Event

Sound that envelops you, that's the idea behind this evening. For 90 minutes, there's nowhere else to be and nothing to do but let it move through the room, and through you.

Join Sonya Verma, Daniel Hall, and Adam Sutherland for a collaborative sound immersion in the beautiful sanctuary of First Lutheran Church, a historic Cincinnati landmark in the heart of Over the Rhine.

Three practitioners playing together in the same room, listening and responding to each other in real time, creates something that simply doesn't exist otherwise. Sound made in collaboration doesn't just get bigger, it gets more textured, more layered, more full. There are more places for it to reach you, and more for you to notice as it moves through the room. Think gongs, singing bowls, didgeridoo, handpan, flutes, harp, chimes, and drums, all resonating together in a space built for it.

What to Expect

You'll be lying down for the full experience. Sounds will be layered throughout, with the practitioners moving through the space with their instruments as they play. The instruments are played in a manner intended to support relaxation and meditation.

Whether this is your first sound immersion or your fiftieth, come as you are. Settle in, slow down, and let the evening unfold.

The Space

Dedicated in 1895, First Lutheran Church is a striking structure with a soaring 130 foot tower and a large Gothic window that draws the eye upward. Its circular sanctuary is clad in timber framing with Gothic stained glass windows beneath a conical roof, an architectural design that lends itself beautifully to sound, letting every tone from gongs to handpan to harp resonate and linger throughout the room. Founded in 1841, the church has deep roots in Cincinnati's cultural history: one of its early founding members went on to establish the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, known today as CCM. It's a space that has been shaping the city's relationship with sound and art for well over a century, and now, for one evening, it becomes the setting for something new.

What to Bring

Yoga mat, blanket, and pillow for your comfort (some chairs will be available ). Dress in layers, as body temperature can drop during deep relaxation.
