One of the great powers of film is that it can take place in worlds that actually don’t exist except on the screen. Whether futuristic cityscapes or fantasy realms, such places use architecture and the built environment to define their fictional worlds.

Ever since its invention in the late 19th century, film has included buildings, streets, and whole cities as part of their story-telling.
