Join WEAG this summer for a unique hands-on experience as we celebrate the Festival of Archaeology 2026!
This year’s theme, “Archaeology and Nature”, couldn’t be more perfect for our excavations at Copped Hall in Essex. Set within beautiful, nature-filled grounds, our site offers the perfect opportunity to explore archaeology in a relaxed environment.
📅 Experience Weekend Dates:
• 11th–12th July
• 25th–26th July
• 8th–9th August
Spend a weekend on a live archaeological dig, where professional archaeologists and experienced volunteers will guide you through the fundamentals of excavation and recording. You’ll also get the chance to try a range of essential archaeological techniques used to interpret sites and uncover the stories they hold.
Within the grounds of Copped Hall, a Georgian mansion currently being lovingly restored, lies a fascinating hidden past. Discover the remains of earlier Copped Halls, including a Tudor palace once visited by Queen Elizabeth I herself.
Whether you're completely new to archaeology or already passionate about the past, this experience is perfect for:
