AR Playing in the Past – Girl Scout Badge Workshop

The members of Albion~Rayonne are excited to once again partner with the Junior Girl Scouts for an evening of history, creativity, and hands-on learning as participants work toward earning their Playing in the Past Badge!
During this interactive workshop, girls will step back in time and create their own historical persona while experiencing activities inspired by life in the Middle Ages.
This workshop is designed to help participants complete the requirements for the Playing in the Past Badge while having fun exploring history through hands-on activities.
We look forward to traveling back in time with the Junior Girl Scouts and sharing an evening of medieval adventure, creativity, and discovery. We warmly invite all participants to join us for this memorable hands-on journey into the past!
In deference to the heat, outdoor combat and archery demonstrations are NOT requested.
6:00 - 20 minute explanation of the general time period.
Feudal system, class structure, women's roles in each etc...
6:20 - Basic persona development
A worksheet and paper doll detailing their persona and style of dress. Be prepared to talk to the girls about classes, regions, and time periods. Bring reference books on clothing, or real life examples - paper dolls provided by GS.
A snack will follow, the service unit will coordinate, but if you have period cooking tools, or spices that the girls could touch or smell that would be great.
Station Rotations
Tables set up in 2 rows or a U shape
Show and share period objects, armor, clothes and tools
Board games
Lawn games (croquet, bocce, kubb? Quoits?)
Calligraphy
Embroidery
Wax Seals
Any craft
Create your own heraldry
Any fiber arts, weaving, drop spindles
The final 20-30 minutes should be a social or market style in which the girls introduce themselves as their persona and reflect on what they have learned, and did, and found most interesting about the experience.
Yarn is available
Service unit can print anything needed
Does anyone have instructions on making a basic pottage?
