The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) works with aviation groups nationwide to address issues that transcend state boundaries. The efforts are crucial to preserving recreational airstrips and preventing their closure or restricted use. The RAF also promotes amendments to state recreational-use statutes to include aviation, reducing liability for private airstrip owners who allow public, non-commercial use.
Presenter Jeff Russell, a RAF Director and lifelong Wisconsin resident, flies a SuperCub and Cirrus from Middleton Airport-C29.
Introduced to aviation as a child in his family’s Cherokee 235, Jeff became a pilot in 1998. After a career in manufacturing, he now volunteers with the RAF and explores the lower 48, Canada, and Alaska in his SuperCub. His favorite spots include northern Wisconsin, Idaho, Montana backcountry, and Alaska.
When not flying, Jeff enjoys fly fishing, sailboat racing, and biking. His partner, Rhonda, shares his passion for backcountry flying and is training to become a pilot.
